Paul Rexroad died peacefully at Lenoir Health Care Center on Feb. 22, 2012. He was surrounded by his family's love.
A service of death and resurrection will be held at Missouri United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Church Parlor.
Paul was born on Aug. 4, 1925 to C.B. and Shady Rexroad in Harrisville WV. Upon graduation from Marietta (OH) High School, he joined the Army Air Corps, training as a navigator. He attended Ohio State University, earning B.S.'s in agriculture and education and a M.S. in agricultural chemistry.
He married Anna Becker on September 20, 1953. They moved to Columbia in 1962, where he served as associate manager of the Experiment Station Chemical Laboratory at MU for 25 years. Upon retirement, Paul began his second career as a volunteer. He was an active participant in the United Methodist Volunteers In Mission, leading several mission trips to the Henderson Settlement in Appalachia, doing home reconstruction in the village of Lupus following the flood of '93, and going on overseas mission trips to Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, and Mexico. Locally he was an active member of Missouri United Methodist Church, served on the Board of Directors of Koinonia House, and was active in the Audubon Society and Golden K Kiwanis. He was recognized for his volunteer service by the Missouri University Retirees Association and the Missouri East Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Anne of the home; daughters Rev. Carol (Robert) Cannon of Bamberg SC and Sharon Rexroad of Chicago; granddaughters Sarah Cannon of Chicago and Elizabeth Cannon of Seattle; sisters Eloise Burkhart, Ruth Strickler, and Janice Kindelberger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. Ninth St., Columbia MO 65201. They may be designated for UMVIM or the Christian Life Center.
