I'm sorry for your loss. Death is such a painful event that it's called an enemy in the Bible at 1 Corinthians 15:26. But Jesus gave us a hope in the Bible at John 11:25: "I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life." So, we will be able to see our loved ones again by means of the resurrection. Then we will never have to lose them again. Why can we say that? Because God has promised us this in the Bible at such scriptures as Isaiah 25:8, Isaiah 26:19, and Revelation 21:3-5. Isn't this good news? Please read these scriptures in your own Bible. Sincerely, Rosemarie

I was fortunate enough to have worked at Ernie's Steakhouse while in college at University of Missouri. In all, 5 members of my family were employed there at one time or another. To have been trained to wait tables by Wayne, was to be trained by the best. I did have to convince him I was tall enough to see the food placed in the window, but once I did he never lost faith in me. My sympathy to the Gladney family. Lynn Murray

Mr. Gladney was one of my very favorite customers at the bank. Whenever he would come in I would make sure to tell all the tellers, "don't forget to give him his rubberband back" because he would let you know if you forgot. It got to the point where I was searching through rubberbands to find just the right one for him in case his broke. I will surely miss seeing his smiling face. God speed Mr. Gladney!

I was saddened to hear of the loss of a great man, grandfather, father and husband.

I met Wayne through Suzanne and Alan and was thrilled and blessed that our paths crossed. I was always amazed at the stories I heard and the events that took place with Wayne as the center of the events. The hospitality was incredible when I stopped by their home on several occasions. The image that will always sit with me was the time he took me to a bathroom to show me his latest deal, a bathtub full of bananas, grapefruit and oranges. Wayne was so proud of the deal but I could not imagine how one family could consume so much until I heard how the deal was soon to be given away to whom ever needed. I think that day I also walked away with a bag full and a few other odds and ends that had to be shared. A Great man ....

Thought and sympathy to the entire family.

We are so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. We send our deepest sympathy to Betty & all the family.

Our fondest memories of Wayne are from Helen's dad's (Bill Morris)75th birthday party at Bill & Fran's home in St. Clair. He told us the story about how he & Betty lost each other at a McDonalds when they were on an antique shopping trip. Wayne was a gifted storyteller & he had us all laughing till we cried as he described their adventures!

Wayne was a special man with a wonderful, warm personality & he will certainly be missed by everyone whose life he touched.

Love, Roger & Helen Pool

Suzanne, thank you for tracking me down.

Back in the 60’s when I left home for college; I had never been away from my family. How lucky I was to find a job waiting tables at Ernie’s Steak house. I always felt at home there. Wayne was always there with advice or something witty to say. Sometimes the advice wasn’t “optional” (I wasn’t the greatest waiter). I’m sure I really tried his patience at times; but thankfully, he had the patience of Job.

He could always make ya laugh. I remember once when someone was complimenting him on the wonderful soup, Wayne explained the secret: “You know - we’ve been dipping this bag in water all week to make soup, but today it broke and spilled all that good stuff right into it!”

He could lighten up a stressful day with his: “Every day’s a holiday!” That saying has stuck with me all these years. He was the hardest worker I have ever seen. When asked how I can work so many hours; I explain that I had a good teacher.

He taught me: at the end the day, it’s not the cash in the register that’s memorable – it’s the people. Hopefully, when my daughter has to make those sad phone calls to people I’ve known, she may discover I have made some difference in their lives the way Wayne did in mine. After all, I had a good teacher.

With my most sincere sympathy,

Suzanne, Rebecca and Betty June - I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful father, husband, businessman, neighbor, mentor, friend and man! Wayne touched so many lives in so many different ways. The confidence I embrace in my life today was refined by Wayne when he hired me and mentored me in my job at Ernie's. The lessons I learned from him are still with me today. I will miss him a lot. I also appreciate the friendship we all shared as neighbors - Wayne meant a lot to both Mom and Dad. Please know my love and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
