Garold "Gary" W. Calfee, 67, of Columbia passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his wife and daughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Parker Funeral Service, with burial and graveside services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.
Gary was born Oct. 13, 1945, in Chillicothe to Geneva Irene (Bristow) Calfee O'Dell and Miles D. Calfee. He attended Bosworth High School, where he participated in track and basketball, graduating in the Class of 1963. He then entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii and the Philippines.
After his discharge, he graduated from Missouri State College in Springfield, where he majored in agriculture. In 1969, he married Wanda Jean Engelking of Carrollton. To this union a daughter, Julie Gail, was born on Dec. 9, 1975.
Most of his career was spent with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, spending time in Daviess and Caldwell counties before being transferred in 1976 to the state office in Columbia, where he remained until his retirement in 2005.
He enjoyed NASCAR, Western movies, working around his home and being with his wife.
Gary is survived by his wife, Wanda, and daughter, Julie, of the home; sisters, Barbara Baer of Columbia, Sue (Bill) Bell of St. Joseph; brother, Junior O'Dell of Wellington; sister in-law, Carolann (Roger) Moe; nieces, Gloria, Carla, Amy, Angie and Kelly; nephews, Denny, Donnie, Ronnie, Mitch, Buddy, Aaron, Jeff, Shanon, Clint, Freddie and Michael; uncles, Allen Calfee of Warrensburg and Arlie Calfee of Reno, N.V.; along with numerous cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Irene; father, Miles D.; stepfather, Harold O'Dell; sisters, Marilyn Jones and Dixie Griswold; brother, Bob O'Dell; brothers-in-law, Orin Jones and Fred Baer; uncles, Maurice and Leo Calfee; and aunts, Mary Edith, Eleanor Dean and Elsie Florence.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbia or Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis.
Pallbearers will be: Aaron Gray, Shanon Gray, Orin (Buddy) Jones, Fred Langan, Joe Giacchi, John Harvey and Michael Langan.
