William A. “Bill” DeYoung 89, of Columbia died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Parkside Manor in Columbia.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Dr. DeYoung was born August 8, 1923 in Bay City, Michigan to James J. and Laura K Schmidt DeYoung. He attended Medical School in The Netherlands, where he met and married Hendrikje “Henny” Molenaar on September 1, 1951. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2009.

Bill and his wife lived many years in Michigan, retiring to San Diego, CA, and then moved to Columbia in 2009. He spent his most of his career working in his private laboratory in Saginaw, Michigan, as well as serving as a consulting pathologist to many hospitals in East Central Michigan. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. The joys in his life were his family and friends, but he also had a great passion for golf.

He is survived by three daughters, Diane Johnson and husband Darrell of San Diego, CA, Lynne Schwartze and husband Bob of Columbia and Joy Grosser of Des Moines, IA; one daughter-in-law, Betsy Hanson of Indian River, MI; one son, Brian C. DeYoung and wife Marji of Alexandria, KY; one sister, Katherine Fisher of Michigan; ten grandchildren, Angie and husband Brad, Katie and husband Jack, Sara and husband Mark, Olivia and husband Matt, Amanda, Amy, Wil, Doug, Emily, Alyssa and five great grandchildren.

His parents, wife, two brothers, two sisters and one son, William Allen DeYoung, Jr preceded him in death.
