Retta Jean Summers, 80, of Columbia, died at 5:31 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8th, at University Hospital in Columbia.
Per her expressed request, the body was cremated and no service will be conducted.
She was born in Earlington, Kentucky on May 6, 1932 to Bonnie Melton and Robert Wilson. She was raised by her parents, her maternal grandmother Ora E. Melton and her stepfather, Paul Rentfro.
Jean was united in marriage to Frank A. Summers on September 20, 1953 at the Darksville Baptist Church. He survives at their home.
After graduating from Huntsville High School, she worked for the late Drs. Cohrs and Epley. Later she spent a number of years working in the Randolph county Collector’s and Assessor’s offices. She retired in 1993.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by a daughter, Terry Taylor of Columbia; grandson Brian Sears of Jefferson City; granddaughter Tracy Smith of Weston, MO; and great-grandchildren Larissa Sears, Jefferson City, and Wyatt, Gunner and Cash Smith of Weston, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother and son-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances in Jean’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
